DC Universe Online Receives Belated Update 2

SOE may have announced a severe staff culling, but that hasn’t stopped the release of the second major update pack for DCUO – imaginatively title Update 2, and formally known as the March update. So, what does the belated March update bring those of us lucky enough to have made it through to early April?…

Marvel vs Capcom 3 DLC List is Fake. For Now…

Since releasing Shuma Gorath and Jill Valentine for MvC3, Capcom have kept rather schtum on exactly who will be filling in those two additional DLC slots – though the current crisis in Japan is probably of more concern to the game’s developers. But this hasn’t  stopped one beaver from spreading a 14-strong roster of new…

Is New Green Lantern Movie Trailer Cause for Concern?

This is a few days late, but I thought I’d share the new Green Lantern Wondercon trailer that’s given us a considerable idea of how Martin Campbell’s slightly worrying blockbuster is shaping up. I’ve had my doubts about this one (as have many), but there’s some really impressive visuals on display here, Mark Strong’s Sinestro…

    Venom #1 Comic Book Review

Marvel, $3.99 Writer: Rick Remender Art: Tony Moore, Sandu Florea, Karl Kesel, John Rauch With Mac Gargan no longer hosting the symbiote, there’s a certain desperation in the way Marvel have been so quick to reinvent Spider-man’s erstwhile antithesis. To better focus my efforts, Bothersome Books, my wee publishing imprint and home to my novel and short stories, has merged with Shelf Abuse. Expect several new releases this year.

Shelf Abuse: Sporadically Singing the Unsung Since 2006

Welcome to Shelf Abuse, the blog of British writer, web/graphic designer and occasional illustrator Carl Doherty.

What started out in 2006 as a blog about comics, gradually leaning more towards self-published and creator-owned works, has slowly transitioned into a home for my own self-published efforts, and a place to share my opinions on art, literature, cinema, storytelling, publishing, design, animal rights, depression… and yes, still comics. You’ll also find the occasional guest article amidst my mercifully brief rants.

Current Site Status

Due to an increasingly dense schedule, I’m no longer officially accepting review submissions. Hopefully this will eventually change, but not looking likely any time soon.

However, my love for indie comics hasn’t diminished in the slightest. Please do feel free to follow me on social media, add me to your mailing list or inform me of your new book. I can’t always reply, but I always appreciate hearing about new books.
